How to keep warm this winter with roof windows in your home…

Depending on how old your roof window is, the glazing type and many other factors, there is a possibility that you might get some heat loss in your home.

Here’s a few tips and tricks to minimize heat loss in the winter.

External Blinds

External blinds are both handy in the winter and summer, they block heat out but also they can keep the cold out. Most external blinds are in a shutter form for example with VELUX they are.

Blackout Blinds

Having blackout blinds on the interior of your roof window can help trap a layer of air in between the glazing and the blind, minimising heat loss.

Draught excluders

You can use these all over your home, including doors and vertical windows to minimise heat loss. This forms a nice seal around the window frame to ensure no draught comes in.

Let in the light

We know sunshine can be like gold dust in the winter, but whenever it’s there use it to your advantage. Even though it’s cold outdoors you will still be able to feel the heat from the sun through your roof windows with no added cost.

Venting out your home

Believe it or not, even in the winter you still need to vent out your home, open your roof windows every now and then for 30 minutes or so to help cycle the stale air outside. This helps reduce condensation which will have built up inside your home with the temperature differences outside & inside.
